Goblet of Fire is my favorite. To me, that opened up the series to the wider Wizarding World, the Ministry of Magic, and even foreign wizards. And some of the adult subplots were so interesting, like the Crouch tragedy, Bagman, and Bertha Jorkins. Its also so exciting and I love the Moody twist at the end. OOTP is arguably my least favorite. Its just too much of repetitive moody Harry though the climax is amazing. Its the book that needed serious editing. I like HBP for the reasons that others don't. I like that it reminds us that these main characters are hormonal teenagers. And again, the climax is amazing. DH is awesome. I like how Hermione and Ron come in front and center along with Harry. The last several chapters are ridiculously amazing. The first three books have to be judged differently because they are a different target demographic. I still love the characters that are introduced. But they are overall down there towards the bottom, maybe just above OOTP. I still love them all, but GOF, HBP, and DH are my favorites.

I think the issue with the Harry Potter books as a series, as compared to something like Percy Jackson, is that the books are structured like a movie, with 1st, 2nd, and 3rd acts, with a big climax. Something like Percy Jackson has a series of adventures throughout the books so they can be evenly split into episodes. I think the fun of the Harry Potter series would be to see just the normal school stuff, but it does run into the problem of making individual episodes exciting for those watching this story for the first time. Because its essentially all build up. That's why I think GOF and DH will be the two best seasons, because both those books have something constantly happening throughout the story.

Before watching this, my idea for making this a more fit for TV story is to explore some other storylines. Nothing too crazy, but getting to see more of the general Wizarding World would be great. Especially early on. Fred and George are probably the simplest option. Just following them a bit and seeing them get up to their antics. But you could also explore Ginny, Luna, Neville, and some of the other characters more than the books do. You could also explore Dumbledore more. I'm a big proponent of the idea that Dumbledore is way more involved in Harry's experience at school than is ever explicitly stated. Seeing what hes getting up to behind the scenes would be amazing. That would also make sense later on, as Dumbledore and eventually the Order of the Phoenix become more intertwined with Harry's life. Another option would be a simple one. Make the first seasons shorter. I know that typically seasons stay around 8 to 12 episodes, but a Harry Potter show should be given the leeway to tweak season lengths. Make seasons 1 2 and 3 only like 5 episodes each. Each season gets longer as the books get longer.

I don't think any of these are kids movie i mean the first one has someone (i forgot who) sucking on the blood of a unicorn and the 2nd one has writing in blood plus a snake getting stabbed in the head with a head and the rest are taken too seriously for kids too get too invested in especially half blood prince

I don't think this is a good idea. If they're going to make a show it should expand the world imo. Show Dumbledores time, or the marauders. Or even do something different

Everyone has their own tastes regarding the books/movies. I absolutely disagree with some of your takes but I think we all agree in hoping that the series will be well made and successful

I feel like episode 1 should be from chapter 1 and end at the end of chapter 6, it introduces us to the characters and the world and teases the viewers for the adventure to come.

we could have a few filler scenes, where we see the trio interact and see more of the castle, classes etc. they could incorporate more quidditch matches as well, because i dont know any school sports team that plays so few games per season.

Why do avid readers not understand that books are a MEDIUM just like movies and TV shows? I hope the series is NOT like the book or movie. If it is just going to be the book and movie then why do it? If the producers are smart, they’ll lean into the strengths of storytelling that can only be done with TV shows…. And that may require expanding the plot or characters in a way that is NOT in the book or movie. For example, maybe we spend time with Hermione or Ron before Hogwarts and learn about what motivates them to form a relationship with Harry. Maybe we get a glimpse of Dumbledore being in a relationship with someone… or dare I suggest that perhaps characters in OTHER books get introduced early like Dolores Umbridge doing a quick (school inspection) for an episode. The worst thing for the imagination is to NOT THINK OUTSIDE A BOX.

I get the concern, but your critique doesn’t reflect the artistic devices that only a series can offer. For example, take a look at “The Last Of Us” episode 3. Bill and Frank were not well fleshed out people in the game. But, the series used a BOTTLE episode to expand the world and include things NOT in the game. It was a risk that paid off, because that episode was critically acclaimed and won lots of awards.

4:12 Just the whole idea of giving a series of movies to a character like Newt Scamander (a character who was mentioned what, two or three times throughout the course of the original Harry Potter books and not once in the movies other than appearing on the Marauders Map) was a mistake from the very beginning. I think Rowling and the producers eventually realized this and that’s why those movies pivoted towards Dumbledore being the focus. It’s understandable why Warner Bros wanted to expand on the Wizarding World, it was a major cash cow for them, but there’s so many neat things they could have done other than Fantastic Beasts. For years, fans have been clamoring for a show or series of movies about Tom Riddle and his descent into darkness and/or The Marauders. You can’t tell me that something like that wouldn’t have garnered more interest from fans than Fantastic Beasts. The reason why a prequel like Better Call Saul was so great was because Saul Goodman was already an established character who affected the plot line of the original series, so many Breaking Bad fans were interested in watching a series in which his character was more fleshed out. You didn’t have that with Fantastic Beasts because most fans of HP didn’t remember or care about Newt, he wasn’t significant to the plot of the original story. Now they’re essentially rebooting a beloved series of books and movies into this TV show. I’ll give it a chance like I did with Fantastic Beasts, I love Harry Potter but I want NEW and interesting content from the Wizarding World. They’re simply rehashing events we’ve already seen on screen before, only it’ll be a bit more detailed due to not having movie theater runtimes to adhere to.
